A good Pet Fish for me?

I’m moving, and we have to get rid of our dogs. My mom offered fish as an alternative pet. I love fishies, but I’m not sure what fish is cheap, but lives long, and can have a brother fish (like another fish to swim around with). So, not a beta. Those are cute, but we’ve had some before and my mom killed them whenever she tried to clean it’s tank. And not a goldfish, no matter how pretty and friendly, I’ve had those all my life. If you get Live Plants and snails for your gold fish tank your mom wont have to clean it. That’s what I’ve done for mine. Oscars are a really good fish too, actually very smart ones, but you cant have more than two in a tank.
